Who am I?
I am just a mom, standing in front of my kids, asking them to learn something.
This is us all fancied up for my sister’s wedding.
We are a Catholic family of 6 living in Florida. I stumbled upon the Montessori method in 2010 and have been attempting to learn it ever since. It has provided not only a framework and method for our day to day, but honestly has reshaped our lives. We march to the beat of our own drums emphasising interest-led learning. I’m forever setting the stage behind the scenes aka the prepared environment to foster that love of learning.
“The mind is not a passive thing, but a devouring flame, never in repose, always in action.”
Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind
Not only do the kids generally have a lot of fun homeschooling this way together, but I find it really fun too. I’m always learning, always tweaking, always growing with them.
Why Cosmic Montessori Farm School?
I named our homeschool venture Cosmic Montessori School after my oldest was interviewed at and turned down from 5 schools. I decided we could be as official as any other private school — even uniforms if we want. I’ve always kept a garden though I’d consider myself very much a newbie. I always try to get the kids to learn alongside me. I think sustainability is one of the most important lessons we need to teach our kids. In Spring we finally got chickens, and I just added the Farm moniker for fun. In all truth we should be called the Cosmic Montessori-Inspired Home School that-does-a-bit-of-suburban-backyard-farming-and Chicken Keeping.
But that’s a mouthful so for now Cosmic Montessori Farm School is a fun badge to wear.
