Sharing all the contents of our animal classification boxes (in the Montessori continent box style) one by one. Up first is our bird box. It’s been so much fun putting these together — almost as much fun as watching the kids explore each animal hands-on. Animal classification cards freebie here. 🙂
We read the books featured above alongside our discovery boxes. They are highly recommended.
The boxes themselves are just empty photo storage boxes from Hobby Lobby. I got a set of 6: invertebrates, mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. Most of the inside contents I picked up from Lakeshore Learning.
What’s Inside?
Birds of North America cards are from Montessori Services.
These amazing bird guides are from Earth, Sky + Water and are the coolest. I ended up getting seven different versions of these folding guides. Featured are Florida’s backyard birds and owls of North America.

Various bird specimen — surprisingly enough — found at Lakeshore Learning. Seeing a pattern here?
Bird slides also from Lakeshore:
Again, freebie cards linked here.
I’m really loving this work!
