Happy to say that this little punk was selected for Camp Boggy Creek Summer Camp: Heart Week for a second year in a row.
Camp Boggy Creek is a Summer Camp for kids with special needs. Camps like these provide fun and independence for kids who’ve been through more medical procedures than many adults ever see. She does archery, swimming, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, swimming, sings camp songs; PLUS she does wacky dances and does things like slip in slides through pasta, eats spaghetti with no hands and plays cleans off in a firetruck hose’s downpour.
All in all, it’s amazing fun for these special kiddos and the lovely volunteers who give of their time to assist. Our cardiologist even went to camp this Summer and has been texting me pictures and videos of Josie as has our wonderful heart nurse coordinator. We are lucky to have such a great heart team caring for our girl — and amazing opportunities such as these.
This year the theme is “You Belong Here.” And after a year of hearing, “No we can’t accommodate your daughter in our program” so many times I could drown a town in my tears — a theme like this means everything.
Also. The week is Harry Potter themed to boot.
Her send off looked a little something like this:
And a couple pictures I’ve received from camp (that I happily obsess over until I can get a full report of her stay):
Who has two thumbs and a heart kid and is crazy proud? This mom. Oh this heart mom so much so.
