Happy to add this cool “Knot Tying Dexterity Game” Knot So Fast from Timberdoodle to our shelves this week.
I remember seeing a knot-tying guide book once before and thinking if only there was a way to make this simple enough for small hands to understand, it’d make a great practical life activity to add to our Montessori shelf. So when I saw this offering from Timberdoodle, I jumped at the chance to review it.
The kit includes all you need to learn to tie 40 different knots: a length of sturdy, orange cording, a metal ring, and a flip book full of challenge images (ranging in difficulty from beginner to expert).
There’s even a short section on the types of knots and their purposes.
My 9-year-old daughter really enjoyed this book. There are interesting facts on each page.
You can learn a surgeons knot — commonly used to tie up surgical sutures.
There are tons of fisherman’s knots (as one might suspect).
Learn a “ring hitch knot” so you can easily connect a length of rope to a ring.
I love that the work is self-correcting, easy to absorb and practical. I can see some of these knot skills coming in handy down the road for all sorts of things. If your kid wants to be a surgeon, you’re that much closer already.
I could see this being a great activity for anyone from lower elementary up through high school (or beyond). It’d be a great way to warm up your fingers before getting into your studies, fantastic as a great mental break or otherwise just a fun way to keep your mind and hands busy.
We received Knot So Fast from Timberdoodle Co, whom we love for all their unique curriculum add-ons; it helps keeps school time hands-on and interesting. Definitely check it out and support small businesses like them.
