We played with such a cool game this week: Laser Maze Jr.
This single-player game was actually enjoyed by both my five and seven-year-olds collaboratively; the goal is to solve a light maze by guiding a laser light beam around rocks, through a splitter or bounced off of mirrors to light up a rocket ship (or two).
No rockets lit:
One rocket lit:
Two rockets lit! Puzzle solved.
The day we first tried this out, my two worked for a solid hour at these mazes. Then my seven-year-old daughter moved onto other work. However, my five-year-old (whom I thought for sure was being helped significantly by his older sister) continued to play for another hour independently moving through levels and challenges as they progressed in difficulty.
Isn’t concentration the best look on a child’s face ever?
Or maybe its the proud look when he realizes he can master something all by himself!
Turns out, my son is a spatial problem-solving, rocket-ship lighting whiz! I was thrilled to see how easily he was able to set up each problem himself by following the card setup.
Because the game is hands-on, easy to understand and self-correcting (all my favorite things ever), he was able to work independently and problem solve his little heart out at his own pace.
This game, offered by Timberdoodle, is a wonderful addition to your homeschool day. I highly recommend giving it a go!
