Sharing one of our much-loved activities from this last week — a layers of the earth play dough mat. In the past we’ve made play dough models of the earth; that’s lots of fun, but I wanted something even easier to put on the shelf that the kids could work on independently.
This is what I came up with: a simple layers of the earth printable which when slipped into a page protector (or laminated) makes a great play dough mat. Play dough mats are a wonderful way to strengthen fine motor. They make learning hands-on and feel like play. Plus it’s super easy. Everyone from my five-year-old to my ten-year-old loved this activity.
I’m sharing a PDF of our printable layers of the earth (with cursive and print labels if needed).
This printable would work great for any of the following activities:
- Play dough mat
- Painting
- Tracing
- Coloring
- Cutting practice
- Tearing tissue / construction paper to make a collage
- Pin pushing
If anyone tries any of these please tag me on Instagram — I’d love to see and share! 🙂
Where did you get the control/3 part cards? I love them! Would love to pair with the mat. Thanks!
Hi they are from Waseca Biomes — part of their new rock cycle mat. 🙂
Same question about your 3 part cards. Do you sell them? Thanks.
I don’t. I wish I was so talented as to be responsible for these. The layers of the earth cards are from Waseca Biomes — part of their new rock cycle mat. 🙂
