If you’ve ever coveted the Waseca Biomes Reading Program (among other products of theirs), I’m happy to say that they are now offering direct download options! Not only can you get the entire Orton-Gillingham based, Montessori-inspired reading program at a big discount (over the in-print version), but you can purchase individual color sets one at a time.
Here are our beloved, rainbow Waseca Biomes Reading Program drawers. In my opinion it is worth every penny. Especially if you have multiple kids and / or students struggling with dyslexia.
I understand not everyone may be able to purchase a large item like this — for a myriad of reasons. Printables to the rescue!
Not only are the reading program cards available to download, but the intro to the biomes (both the primary and elementary set) are too. I have heard the readers are coming soon (but that the biome cards will not be).

In other Waseca Biomes news, I also have heard there’s a possibility we may see new biome grammar mats later in the Fall. They used to offer a rainforest mat not too long ago. I will be anxiously awaiting that. We currently have the Everglades and Coral Reef Grammar mat and they are both wonderful.
We have the African Savannah Grammar mat and Water Cycle Mat on order, and I couldn’t be more excited. I want them all…
In other news (sort of), I just made a card box to hold the Biome Cards. I wanted an easy way for the kids to grab a class of animals to research, compare and contrast. So far I’ve made a set of 5 for the vertebrates. Going to add a people / cultures box and one for plant life and invertebrates. Also on the hunt for fungi by continent — if anyone has seen something like that available anywhere please show me. Otherwise I know what my next big project will be.
Right now, the kids are all collaborating on a big tree of life research project utilizing these cards. Lots of writing and artwork. I have high hopes! 🙂
Curious to know if you are you wrapping up your school year soon. We’re going through end of July here! So much yet to do to round out the year.
In May, our ancient civ studies are really set to ramp up (plus 4th and 5th great lesson extensions); we’ve officially finished our unit on early people (and the third great lesson). We just finished a mini portfolio for our clock of eras work, and I’ve ordered a kit for ancient history studies (more on that later) alongside our Story of Civilization audiobooks.
I’m also pleased to announce I’ll soon have a series of interviews with some wonderful Montessori Homeschooling families sharing their stories and spaces; I’m super excited about that.
Last of all, I’m planning on putting together a yearbook for the kids to remember all the cool stuff we did. So many field trips earlier this year.
Stay safe wherever you are — and stay tuned! 🙂
